News headlines are often sensational and they are sensational
for a good reason. No one will buy a paper or magazine if the
news is not sensational. Having just stated the obvious, I wish
to draw your attention to an article that appeared in the German
Magazine
Spiegel. This article explores the connection between
the possible destruction of the commercial bee industry in Europe and
the USA and cell phones. After you read the entire article, you find
that cell phones are just one of several possible explanations for the
death of up to 20% of the commercial bees in Europe and the USA. Other
reasons range from inbreeding of the bees to genetically engineered
crops. The real answer to "What is killing the bees of Europe?" is that
no one really knows. This article demonstrates a real problem in
today's techno-centered world. There are so many new products and
procedures developing today that there is no real way of knowing what
effect they have on the environment and on society. I do not believe
there is a solution to this problem but it makes for great speculation
and headlines.
