The United States Military is developing new techniques to
assess closed head traumas. These methods include a new scanning camera
that uses gamma rays and radioisotopes. Col. John Cho, commander of the
Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, made this announcement
Tuesday April 24, 2007. This research has been in response to a recent
study at Fort Carson that found that 18 percent of troops (2,392 of
13,400) who had been to Iraq suffered at least some brain damage from
the blasts of improvised explosive devices.
